OUR STORY

Our Why

Bill was known for asking the kinds of questions that made people pause. Thought-provoking, perfectly timed, and impossible to ignore. One lesson he passed on to John stayed above all others: the three most important questions in life are why, why, and why.

Bill believed that by the third “why,” the truth reveals itself—stripped of distraction, ego, and noise. It was a philosophy that applied to everything: understanding people’s choices, deciding a path in life, or questioning decisions that carried real consequence—especially in healthcare.

John carried this lesson with him for years, using it in many forms. But it wasn’t until his mother Bette’s cancer diagnosis that its meaning became unmistakably clear. Asking “why” wasn’t curiosity—it was survival. It became the foundation that allowed John to advocate, to push back, and to play a pivotal role in Bette’s care and treatment journey.

Throughout her fight, Bette was repeatedly confronted with the words impossible and rare. Faced with professionals ready to retreat or choose the easiest path, she chose something else entirely. She chose to fight—not just to live, but to thrive. Her determination reshaped what was possible.

As caregiving kids, and now having lost both parents, John and Christianne carry experiences they can never unsee and lessons they can never unlearn. It is because of their parents’ love, resilience, and unwavering spirit that they have chosen to turn loss into purpose—supporting others who are forced to walk similar paths, and ensuring that no one is ever told to stop asking why.
